Adrift
High atop a rolling swell I scan the scene around me.
Infinite ocean in all directions is all that I can see.
Knowing that I am truly lost, I gaze into the deep.
Abyssal plain, miles below, wants my bones to keep.
Resolved, as I am, to save myself, my position I seek to know.
Astrolabe and sextant may tell the direction in which I must go.
Zone of heat is all I know of where my ship has sunk.
Only a lifeboat is now my ship, a wooden plank my bunk.
Rowing when I can, from my fate I try to flee.
"Eternal Father, Strong to save...", I chant the hymn of the sea.
Land is all I truly crave, however barren it
may be.
