Physics, Texas-style
I composed this little
ditty at the end of January 1992, before Congress killed the Superconducting
Supercollider Project permanently. It's meant to be sung to the melody of "The
Yellow Rose of Texas".
'Round the town of Waxahatchie they're gonna dig a ditch.
The scientists will use it to scratch a mighty itch.
They'll fill it up with magnets and a big, long vacuum pipe
and use it to make matter of a new and
foreign type.
It's a synchrotronic freeway protons are gonna use.
It oughta be exciting, but it just won't make the news.
There'll be head-on collisions but the protons' awful fate
ain't half as bad as
traffic on the local interstate.
